Job Title: Underwriting Assistant
Department: Underwriting
Reports To: Director of Operations
Pay Type: Salary

An Underwriting Assistant helps with evaluating individual applications for insurance coverage to assess the level of risk involved if the applicant is approved to receive proper coverage. An Underwriting Assistant supports the Underwriters when work production is high.

Essential Functions

  • Enter and process changes with umbrella renewals
  • Handle address changes
  • Run any underwriting requests
  • Handle other referred change requests from the Policy Services Department
  • Take phone calls from agents and insureds
  • Process mortgagee and lienholder changes
  • Assist agents with quotes
  • Investigate unlisted drivers
  • Assist underwriters with applications, renewals and other administrative duties

Specifications / Requirements

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Capable of fostering partnership in a fast paced environment
  • Must be reliable, responsible and organized
  • Maintain strong knowledge of Microsoft products and basic computer functions

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • 2-5 years’ experience in personal or commercial lines

Working Conditions

The physical work environment for this position involves sitting in an office setting communicating with others face-to-face, electronically and by telephone. Overtime may be required for this position if requested by a supervisor in order to complete a certain given task in a timely manner.
