Job Description

Job Title: Claims Assistant
Department: Claims
Reports To: Claims Administrative Supervisor
Pay Type: Hourly

Claims Assistant processes all claims payments, assist adjusters with administrative duties, set up new losses and verify insurance coverage.

Essential Functions

  • Match corresponding mail, pull necessary files and deliver appropriately
  • Pick up outgoing mail claims
  • Enter, change and code all W-9’s received
  • Maintain physical and computer vendor files
  • Make a file for each vendor that WMI holds
  • Request W-9’s as needed from appropriate parties
  • Pull claims files and deliver checks to claims representatives
  • Process claims checks and send out privacy contracts needed for payments
  • Assist in other administrative duties as needed
  • Prepare new file folders for claims
  • Create new loss setups
  • Back up front desk switchboard
  • Enter and process field checks and drafts from regional offices

Specifications / Requirements

  • Willing to learn
  • Ability to interpret material and apply as needed
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Maintain knowledge of basic computer functions including Microsoft Products
  • Strong oral and written communication between customers, insureds and coworkers

Education / Experience

  • High school diploma
  • Previous business experience

Working Conditions

The physical work environment for this position involves sitting in an office setting communicating with others face-to-face, electronically and by telephone. Overtime may be required for this position if requested by a supervisor in order to complete a certain given task in a timely manner.
