Job Title: Accounting Assistant
Department: Accounting
Reports To: Accounting Supervisor
Pay Type: Hourly

Accounting Assistant supports the accounting supervisor in completing account analysis, record numerical data and keep financial records. In addition, an Accounting Assistant assists other accounting staff with contributing to daily operations.

Essential Functions

  • Handle late payments and handle return items
  • Send positive pay files to the bank
  • Review uploaded applications in Electronic Funds Transfer System and deposit premiums
  • Pay all administrative checks and enter the amounts to be charged to the appropriate account
  • Provide quality service in a timely manner to policyholders, agents, and all other business contacts
  • Scan checks to organize a deposit
  • Utilize all skills and resources to provide quality service in a timely manner to policyholders, insureds, agents, and all other business contacts
  • Sort through lapse notices, cancellation tickets, credit memos, and rebills to check for accuracy
  • Act as a back-up when Accounting Clerk is absent
  • Run queries to extract needed information
  • Print claims and policy services checks daily

Specifications / Requirements

  • Strong telephone and customer service skills
  • Capable of conveying information effectively between coworkers and customers
  • Provide customer and personal services
  • Ability to evaluate the customer’s satisfaction, quality of services and assessing the customer’s needs

Education / Experience

  • Associates degree
  • Experience with Excel would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices

Working Conditions

The physical work environment for this position involves sitting in an office setting communicating with others face-to-face, electronically and by telephone. Overtime may be required for this position if requested by a supervisor in order to complete a certain given task in a timely manner.
